Happy 10th Birthday Skins! Here Are A Few Reasons On Why You Were So Great!

Good Morning Lovelies,

I am writing this post because I can’t actually get over this news! 10 years ago today the first ever episode of Skins was aired! How is that even possible? I don’t believe it has really been that long lovelies. I am so thankful for this show for many reasons.

As the talent from it continues to grow on the big screen as Dev Patel, Nicholas Hoult, Jack O’Connell, Kaya Scodelario, Hannah Murray, Joe Dempsie and many more continue to express the power that helped so many of us as teenagers. Their characters will always be what helped guide many of us during our early or late teens.

There so I wanted to share my reasons on why the show was so great. Enjoy...

1. The Witty Comedy Between Characters: While the show had many dark moments and ones that showed a lot of teen angst, there were many moments that still make me smile or full belly laugh at them. For example, Cook dancing to Kylie Minogue and Chris sitting at his desk in his first real job.

2. The Tough Moments: As mentioned before the show could get quite dark. However, the handling of those moments was amazing and the way in which they made us feel things we didn’t think we could for certain characters made it so powerful. From Chris and Freddie’s deaths to the breakdown of Effie’s character, the show took those moments and made them shocking yet incredible.

3. Proving To Teenagers It Was Okay To Be Different: No one in the show was the same. Skins was popular because the group members were all different. From popular Tony to comical Sid, there was a person who represented the members of your group and that connection made you want to see what they got up to on their next adventure.

4. It Handled Mental Health Issues Brilliantly: Effie’s battle in the second and third season showed how a show could change direction but do so well. The first time I ever truly saw mental health issues displayed on screen was in this show and it is still one of the most incredible

5. It Gave Us Amazing Talent: Skins was one of the first teen filled shows on TV and it has gone around the world and affected so many people. In more ways than one. If you go on Tumblr, there is sure to be something to do with the show on there. It was incredible to see a show touch so many people’s lives and that was all down to the talent on and off screen. Yesterday Dev Patel was nominated for an Oscar and I don’t think he will be the last Skins star to be nominated. That is for sure!

Thank you Skins for being a great teen drama for so many of us! I am off for a binge-watching session! Who else is with me?
