KNIGHT OF CUPS DVD REVIEW16:24:00
A few weeks ago I was told about the film, Knight of Cups, which has an incredible cast and interesting storyline. Of course I was quick to ask if I could review the film and this weekend I sat down to do so.
Starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett, the film tells the story of Rick, a screenwriter who is struggling to find peace and happiness in his world. So he decides to use sex and women to help him try to find it.
The film is very much like Shame but without a lot of the rude moments. It is a look at the breakdown of one man’s life and Bale plays it in a very interesting way that gives viewers mixed emotions. There are times you find yourself feeling horrible for his actions and at other times mad that he is finding help the way he does.
However it isn’t the actions of Bale’s character that let’s down the reaction from the audience. It is in fact the way in which the tarot cards play into the story. There is a sense of the cards playing to much of a part in the tale and it becomes a story that can’t handle that.
Bale, Blanchett, Freda Pinto and Teresa Palmer do their best to save the film from this but they can’t lovelies.
And that is why I am giving it…
