LONDON FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCE A UNITED KINGDOM WILL OPEN THE EVENT...13:36:00
Good Afternoon Lovelies,
And how are all of you today lovelies? I have returned with some very exciting news about the 60th BFI London Film Festival, because the opening night film has been announced!
Telling the true story of the King of Bechuanaland (Botswana now) and his wife Ruth Williams, a London worker who marries the king in 1947, the film sees and follows the couple as they face backlash from their families and the two governments.
Clare Stewart, BFI London Film Festival Director, said of the screening, “Amma Asante’s A UNITED KINGDOM is testament to a defiant and enduring love story that also reveals a complex, painful chapter in British history. We are proud to be opening the 60th BFI London Film Festival with a film of such contemporary relevance, one that celebrates the triumph of love and intelligence over intolerance and oppression, and that confirms Asante as a distinctive and important British filmmaker.”
While director Amma Asante commented, “It's a great privilege that A UNITED KINGDOM has been selected as the Opening Night Film of the BFI London Film Festival. The Festival means a lot to me personally, having showcased my very first film, A Way of Life, here and been honoured with the UK Film Talent Award. I'm a proud Londoner and in A UNITED KINGDOM we've been able to film in some of the most beautiful parts of the city as well as in the wonderful landscapes of Botswana.”
The festival will run from the 5th October until the 16th October lovelies and the programme for the event will be out on the 1st September. Many of the events will also be screened into loyal cinemas including this one lovelies.
